Page 3 Executive Summary The present research carries out in-depth studies of Indian Education System and highlights the lack of attention being given on educating the youth on social responsibility and sustainable development. It intends to deliver a key message that we fail to realize that Governments, Corporate sector and Industries etc are finally run by individuals only. Social responsibility and Sustainability are not professions but universal responsibilities. So along with the development of professional skills during the course of their education, youth needs to be educated about the responsible use of them. With the commencement of groundwork in 2009 in VIT University - India, pilot studies were launched to understand the behaviour of youth and their needs. The research is supported by work carried out at three levels – youth that would be joining any educational program, those who are currently enrolled and those who have completed. The research stresses that the outcomes will be achieved more quickly as the youth grasps the need for change, realize the importance of their actions, understand the benefits and then convert this knowledge into new behavioural patterns. The research completely supports the fact that maximum of the population in India do not have education facilities and out of most of the ones who even get it lack the adequate skills and knowledge. But the present study has gone beyond the normal hullabaloo about literacy rates and lack in education system to the root cause of the problem. The main causes of our uneven and highly unequal educational system are nothing but political and social neglect. And these two issues would be addressed only when every individual takes more responsible actions, be it a person in government or a school teacher. It encourages setting up a R&D unit in education sector to impart social values & create a better ecosystem for students. The research proposes to make this happen by crafting special programs and metamorphosing the existing ones. This research elucidates how educational institutions can revive their curriculum and discover the new exciting ways of engaging and educating the youth to meet prevailing challenges so that it becomes common practice with enjoyable experiences. The point to be considered while going through the research is that the sustainable growth we emphasize involves all the aspects of growth, be it economic, social or political.
