Midterm Study Guide 3 types of Exchange o Reciprocity- you give something to someone and they give something back to you, no money is involved, in true communities and families (dominates Kin Order Mode) o Redistribution- a central authority collects surplus and then redistributes it to who needs it, taxes (dominates tributary mode) o Market Exchange- the exchange of money for a good or service, this is what we use most often (dominates capitalist mode) Trobriand Movie- they use no means of money, they use what they have for th means of wealth, the only way you get ahead in the community is by giving things away to people and not expect anything in return Capitalism vs. Mercantilism o Capitalism involves money, trade, and market exchange. Capital is the money that is invested into a company, based in private property, own means of production (land and tools), goal is to separate most people from the means of production o
