1.1.1.1.1.Theology and "city on a hill." 1.1.1.1.1.1.These Puritans have organized a mass exit from England. The plan is to remake England sans the Church of England. Hence, New England. 1.1.1.1.1.2.This has to do with the theology of the Puritans. Human beings are wretched, sinful creatures who need to burn in hell. Because God is loving and merciful and chooses people to be saved (the saints!). These people may have salvation but they have to enforce God's law on Earth. No toleration of sin. 1.1.1.1.1.3.The new community is not tolerant of sins, mistakes, errors. No sin in New England! Shining city on a hill!1.1.1.1.1.4.Live as if you have been saved, even if you aren't! Woohoo for insurance1.1.1.1.1.5.Passed laws called Blue Laws - laws that regulate what is and isn't a sin and therefore what you can and can't do. Everyone became an informer. For everyone to escape damnation you had to confront sinners.1.1.1.1.2.Dissidents: Roger Williams, Hutchinson.1.1.1.1.2.1.Williams1.1.1.1.2.1.1.The Puritan ideology was flawed! says Roger Williams. The state should be separate from the religious authority. Church leaders ran the town. 1.1.1.1.2.1.2.We should welcome other faiths!1.1.1.1.2.1.3.We should compensate the Native Americans for their land! We kind of jacked it from them1.1.1.1.2.1.4.Williams was banished and went and founded Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.1.1.1.1.2.2.Hutchinson1.1.1.1.2.2.1.She took the Puritan doctrine to the extreme.1.1.1.1.2.2.2.Bible study groups in her own home.1.1.1.1.2.2.3.If certain people have been chosen for salvation, why follow divine law? If you go and hump trees or whatever(copyright Haindfield), God already knew you would do that and he still saved you. Enjoy your salvation, have some fries. Don't bother listening to the ministers or any of that.

By their powers combined, protect the hell out of New England. Independent, but united for war and peace.
