Cailin Johnson-Smart June 8, 2007 The Holocaust Andrea Wang Section C ID Terms Canada/Mexico Canada is a term from the book This Way for the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen written by Tadeusz Borowski. Canada refers to a section of Auschwitz that was well off compared to the rest of camp. Canada had more food and was generally composed of people that were well connected. The people that lived in Canada were generally not of Jewish heritage. Mexico The term Mexico is also from This Way for the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen and was the name of a camp composed of gypsies and women in Auschwitz. It was not yet completed when it started to house the inmates. The conditions in Mexico were not as good as the conditions in Canada. Mengele Joseph Mengele was a German SS officer and a physician in the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz. During selections, he would stand and choose which Jews were sent to gas chambers based on their physical condition. Because of his role in the selection process, he became known as the “angel of death.” Joseph Mengele also took part of the terrible human experiments that the Nazis became infamous for. Mengele personifies the Nazis
