Group C: Balance of Work and Family—Family of 3 (parents and child) concerned due to oneparent who is unable to balance work and family demands.Group C was tasked with completing a Wiki Group Project over the course of ten weeks.The goal of the group is to apply a social work approach to a family that is struggling with thebalance of work and family. The family includes a wife, husband, and their two children.Throughout this paper, the family dynamics will be discussed, along with many additionalfactors. The authors will discuss the scope of the problem, how to engage and assess the family,the advantages and disadvantages of possible interventions, a treatment plan, and an evaluationfor the assigned family. The Wiki Group Project will provide information, education, and detailon how to apply evidence-based interventions on the selected family system.Family Demographics / Family SystemThe Williams family consists of a married, heterosexual, African American mother andfather. Sarah Williams, who is thirty year-of-age, is married to Bryan Williams, who is thirty-oneyears-of-age. Sarah and Bryan have been married for the past nine years and were both born andraised in Florida. Sarah and Bryan have two children together. Their oldest child is JordanWilliams, who is five years old. Their second child is Macy Williams, who is two years old.Macy also lives with Autism. Sarah and Bryan have been faced with marital issues in the pastfew months. Bryan has found himself having a difficult time balancing work, family, and homedemands. This has caused extra home duties and overall stress on Sarah. Sarah is wanting Bryanto contribute more to household duties so she can have some time to herself.2
ScenarioBoth parents, Sarah and Bryan Williams are a lower to middle-class family that has twochildren. Their two children are Macy and Jordan. Their second child Macy has a diagnosisof autism spectrum disorder. She was diagnosed at the age of four months old. Sarah has a job asa kindergarten teacher at the local school and her husband Bryan is a General Manager at a localdoughnut shop. Sarah has reapplied to college to advance her career opportunities. She isenrolled at a University to pursue a Masters of Education Leadership degree. Sarah’s goals are tobecome a dean at her current elementary school. Bryan was recently promoted to GeneralManager, which helps cover extra expenses for his child’s health care therapy sessions. Heaverages between 60 to 80 hours a week to help provide for his family. Macy’s Autism diagnosisrequires that she attend occupational therapy, speech therapy, BBA therapy, and food therapyweekly. Macy’s appointments are three days a week, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Sarah oftenfinds herself exhausted and overwhelmed due to Bryan's absence in the home because of his job.
