October 26, 2007 Non-Documented Essay Imagine a world of restricted freedoms where everyone holds no freedom of expression, no rights, and no ability to speak freely amongst the public. This country slowly embodies this world more and more everyday in regards to censorship. To administer censorship toward media, such as television and radio, the United States government allows the Federal Communications Commission to regulate this content. Gaining prominence over the passed few years, censorship jumped to the forefront as an important issue in this country. Many people devote their entire careers and countless amounts of money to regulate content on television and other forms of media. These people make sure the people responsible for “indecent” content face enormous fines for each offense. Therefore, censorship of television should be stopped because it takes away the freedom of speech, it forces attention away from more important issues, and it eliminates the ability to choose. Founded on the First Amendment, America grants every citizen the freedom of speech. However, the government takes away this right when they allow the Federal Communications Commission to control the content on television by fining television networks for so-called “indecent” content. The freedoms in America grant permission to express ideas freely and openly. Imagine this country without these freedoms. If this were the case, fear would run America. Television networks would constantly suffer concern to offend anyone who may skip
