Bond 1 Matthew Bond Melissa Williams English 121 3 April 2013 Tartuffe Reading Response – Doubtful Instics There was once a great philosopher by the name of Jean Jacques Rousseau who explored the realization of existence in a mortal world. Rousseau preached that we must doubt even our own existence to truly affirm that we are in fact living, sensible beings. Accepting what we perceive as reality relates to the immediate principle of conscience independent of reason. How can we know that what we see (or think we see) is real if we don’t first ask ourselves, what is the meaning of all this and how did this come to be? The truth is, we can easily fall subject to our own instincts and entirely disregard contemplating contrary beliefs – it is part of human nature. However, sometimes it is necessary to take a step back and analyze different perspectives so that we may increase our present awareness.
