Unformatted text preview: Caitlin Wood FM114 Fall Fashion Preview The Saks Fifth Ave Shoe Experience Saks Fifth Avenue is the most legendary and auspicious department stores to ever grace the fashion and retail capital of the world, Manhattan of New York City. Andrew Saks founded the company in 1892, and it became Saks & Company with its headquarters in New York around 1902. It merged with Gimbel Brothers Incorporated in 1923, but did not become one sole entity until 1924. In a story book beginning, it merged as one store on one corner of Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, and the rest is fashion and even pop culture history. Every fashionable woman knows of Saks, shops there if she is lucky, and dreams of it if she is not. The love of a lavish department store is akin to a woman’s love of the perfect handbag, that little black dress, and in this fall fashion report, shoes! The Shoe department at Saks on Fifth is well renowned, so large that as of August 2007, it has its own zip code. As I walked into Saks, there among the cosmetic and fragrance counters, on a pedestal high above our heads was a giant purple stiletto pump. Made out of giant curls and spirals, the giant shoe turned one way while its matching white base revolved oppositely. As if this grandeur was not enough, there were lights shown from this mock shoe god that shone its curls and spirals all over the ground floor like a disco ball. This new promotion has sparked a new rush to the eighth floor. And well it should, as this fall Saks Shoe Department, 10022- SHOE, will now hold more designer labels than any other department store. There are express elevators from the ground floor to the eighth to take shoppers to the more than one hundred thousand pairs of shoe on this one floor alone 1 . Stars can shop comfortably in the VIP private shopping room, or any woman can be fitted in the professional fitting room. I even picked up a shopping room, or any woman can be fitted in the professional fitting room....
