Mason Gregory Music 2730 Vinson 4 December 2007 Music Report 1 The first concert I chose to attend was student convocation. It was held on October 24, 2007 in the Recital Hall 125 in Goodwin Hall at 4:00 pm. Many students played brass and woodwind instruments, and others sang musical pieces. The first piece played was “Sonata No. 5”. It was written by G. F. Handel and was performed by an alto saxophone player named Josh Williams. Handel was a German-born British composer from the Baroque era who led concerti grossi, operas, and oratorios. He helped the transition from the Baroque era to the Classical era. I did not like this piece particularly because of its musical tone. Next was a piece called “Fantasy Pieces” by Carl Nielsen. It was performed by Steven Smith on the oboe. Nielsen was a conductor, violinist, and composer from Denmark in the early 1900s. I did not like this one simply because I do not enjoy the sound of the oboe. The next piece, called “Piece in G Minor”, was written by Gabriel Pierne.
