Penn State CHEM 111 Experiment 8: An Introduction to Acids & Bases Read through the experimental procedure in Chemtrek and watch the associated experiment videos in Canvas. In the provided space, write a lab goal, summarize the procedure, record your observations, and complete all questions included in this report sheet. Experiment Goal. Complete before lab. To observe properties of acids and bases by performing titrations and using color indicators. Procedure: Thompson, S. PSU Chemtrek: Expt. 8 Introduction to Acids & Bases; Keiser, J., Hayden-McNeil Publishing. Plymouth, MI, 2020 pp 8-1 to 8-18. Section A: Common Laboratory Acids and Bases Pre-lab data collection and observations. Complete before lab. This is a conceptual section. Read through the associated section in the Chemtrek. In your own words, describe some of what we know about common acids and bases:

Section B: Indicator Color Probes for Acids & Bases Pre-lab data collection and observations. Complete before lab. Read through this section in your Chemtrek and watch the video associated with this section. Follow up with your TA with any questions. Briefly summarize the video in the space provided here. Is the homemade pH paper reversible? Once the indicator has been switched from one color to another, can it be switched back?
Penn State CHEM 111 2 The homemade pH paper is reversible. When combined with HCl the color changed to dark pink. A drop of NaOH on top of this reaction changed the color to green. I do not think that the color can be switched back to the original.
