PRE - LAB QUESTIONS 1. Describe at least three similarities and three differences between mitosis and meiosis. Three similarities are that they both are a form of cell division that make new cells by replicating genetics. They also separate sister chromatids and form the daughter chromosomes. They also go through the same phases which are Interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase and cytokinesis. Three differences are mitosis produces two daughter cells, and mitosis produces 4 daughter cells. Mitosis daughter cells are identical, and the daughter cells in meiosis are different. Mitosis is asexual reproduction and meiosis is a form of sexual reproduction. 2. What major events occur during interphase? During interphase it is composed of g1 phase which is growth cell, then S phase which is DNA Synthesis follows by G2. At the end of the interphase is mitotic phase in which is made up of mitosis and cytokinesis and lead to the formation of 2 daughter cells. 3. What are chromosomes made of? Chromosomes are Thread like structures that are inside the nucleus of an animal or plant cells. They each are made of protein and a single molecule of DNA 4. Cancer is a disease related to uncontrolled cell division. Do a web-search to learn about chemotherapy drugs used to treat cancer. Briefly describe how one of these drugs functions in relation to cell division. Explain your answer. Include references to information sources used. chemotherapy is a treatment used to treat cancer by going in through the blood stream and killing cancer cells. One Chemotherapy drug is Adcetris brentuximab Vedotin and it is an antibody drug designed to target tumor cells Expressing CD30 and a small molecule known as (monomethyl Auristation (MMAE) is released.
