Sarah BeeseCoaching Sponsored SportsFebruary 13, 2013The practice objective I will be setting up for would be a third or fourth grade girl’s elementary basketball team. At this age they are looking to try something new and simply have fun with it. So my practice objectives will be to make sure they are having fun while gaining confidence in their abilities on the court, all while improving along the way. The equipment that we will need is basketballs, cones and a gym with basketball hoops. For warm up I will have the girls start with a lap around the gym and some plyometric stretching to get them lose. They will cover all muscle areas from arms and shoulders to ankles. Then I will give them a few minutes to static stretch anything else out that may be sore. Soon after that we will move into some ball handling drills such as moving the ball back and forth between your hands at close range and at fast pace to get them stronger. I will also have them move the ball around their legs, waist and head for control and then lastly, throw in some simple dribbling drills to get them into a low stance with their arm up to protect the ball.
