Since modern antisemitism is a reaction to the liberal ideas that were spreading
throughout Europe, the 70’s and 80’s would be the appropriate time for it to arise, as it
was the first time that the whole of Europe was exposed to it.
As noted earlier, the political element of the new antisemitism was just a front for those
people who wanted to do away with democracy outright. They used antisemitism as a
scapegoat by which they could incite public outcry over the new democratic state, and
hopefully abolish it.
It could not have come before this time, because the democratic idea was still being
implemented and tested. Once it was realized that some power would be lost by one
group and given to another, opposition arose to the new form of government.
