Jonathan Jaklitsch Anthropology 143 2/7/08 McCain and Immigration The article “McCain and Immigration” by an anonymous author from the Associated Press, discusses how the issue of immigration may hurt Senator John McCain in the general election for the presidency. Although McCain is a conservative, his stance on immigration is quite liberal. He supports an “earned-legalization program” some time down the road, and that view is not too popular with the rest of the Republican base. This article states that because of McCain’s stance on immigration, some Republicans might stay home on Election Day.

The author said that once McCain had won the nomination, he should lay out a “comprehensive border security policy”. This plan would include “fence building, agent hiring, and beefing up interior enforcement”.
