[[ Social Work .]] Webster dictionary defines Social Work as, “ any of various professional activities or methods concretely concerned with providing social services and especially with the investigation, treatment, and material aid of the economically, physically, mentally, or socially disadvantaged.” But to me it simply means, helping people. According to Minnesota Careers 2008 Edition , Social Workers counsel individuals and families that need assistance in some way. Much of social work is finding resources that can provide assistance to these families or individuals. The demand for social workers is “good”. Most of the demand comes from rural areas and focuses on work with the elderly, which is great because I have worked at a retirement home for 3 years and greatly enjoy the interaction I am able to have with the residents. Some skills needed for being a social worker include problem sensitivity (being able to not only react appropriately to clients issues, but also relate to them), people orientation, time-management (the ability to
