Red Cedars grow well on alvars (indicator). Loggerhead Shrikes often nest in Red
Cedars, now an endangered species. Hawthorns are important shrubs for shrikes.
Alvars are even more prevalent in another part of the GL SL Forest Region. Great
Lakes Lowland. North of Belleville lies the Napanee Plains. Prairie Smoke is another
Avlar species. South of Belleville lies Prince Edward County. Point Traverse (Long
Point) is the south-eastern tip of Prince Edward County. Lake Ontario greatly affects the
climate (moderating it) and is also habitat. Fall & Winter major are for huge ﬂocks of
ducks (Northern, diving ducks- long tailed ducks, Goldeneye), big bodies of water good
for Winter. The point is important for migrating songbirds, Black throated Blue Warbler, banding
