Running head: WHAT MATTERS MOST TO ME What Matters Most To Me Name Institution
WHAT MATTERS MOST TO ME 2 What Matters Most To Me When I ponder what matters to me, nearly everything I interact with or get involved in is essential. Friends, education, grades, family, being rich all matter to me. Nevertheless, the article Stanford’s “What Matters Most” Essay has helped me identify what matters most among the many things I consider important. Following the approaches provided in the article, I realized that success, family, and personal development matter most to me. Every day I work hard to become successful in what I want. I am pressured to strive for success, not for money but for the achievements I can get paid for. It all began in high school when my father left us. Everything took a dramatic turn because he was the family's breadwinner. We could not afford school fees for my younger brother and me, let alone three meals a day. I had to drop out of school for one term because I had not paid fees. We used to survive on a single meal a day before my mother secured a job at a nearby grocery store. Although her salary was enough to feed the family, it was not enough to take us to a good school. At this time, I decided to work hard in school because I believed education would unlock all the impossibilities and help me change the life of my family. I would never want my mother to keep on struggling by working extra time in the grocery for a meager salary. I also believed education would expose me to various opportunities from which I can make a living for myself and my brother and mother. I sacrificed a lot by forgoing my leisure time to create extra time for my studies. I chose not to follow teens of my age to parties or walks during weekends because I knew what I wanted in life. It was not by luck that I passed my exams, which paved the way for me to join this institution. I have followed the same routine ever since I joined college; I have always focused on my studies by spending most of my free time in books.
