What is Political Theory? Political Theory and Political Science There are several subfields of political science in universities in the United States Four Primary: International Relations, Comparative Politics, American Politics and Political Theory At UConn, we also have Public Law Studying Political Theory Studying political theory engages us in (at least) 2 types of study: o History of political thought: what others wrote Ancient/classical political theory (Pols 201) Medieval political theory (Pols 201) Modern political theory (Pols 202) Contemporary political theory (Pols 202) American political thought (in U.S.)(Pols 207) o Normative political theory: what we believe about the political thought o Political theory can include areas from many areas (e.g. political science, philosophy, psychology, sociology, linguistics/literary criticism, economy and education) o In the end, we can take knowledge from anywhere in helping us decided the larger question for political theory: what do we want our political
