© H appyEdugator Take students to the media center or have a variety of poetry books available for cooperative groups. Students must look in the poetry books and try to find examples of the different elements of poetry listed on their sheet. Give each student a copy of the scavenger hunt sheet. Students record the example, the title of the book, the author, and the page number. They may record it as a group cooperatively, or as individuals. Give students the recording sheet as needed, or have them use their own paper. Students can turn in their recorded sheet for a grade if you desire, or you can make it a game and the team with the highest number of points wins. Students will enjoy looking at a variety of poetry books and some may get hooked on poetry! (The media specialist may pull some books ahead of time.) Poetry Scavenger Hunt Teacher Directions: This is a follow up activity or reinforcement activity for a poetry unit. Use it AFTER you have studied poetry terms and students are familiar with poetry elements.
