Author: Cynthia Toppin Chris, Great response and reply! But who are your company's competitors? Many company's ask the question "when do we use market segmentation"? The answer is, anytime you suspect there are significant, meaurable diferences in a particular market. There are thing that need to be considered to see if a market must be segmented. The market must be large enough to be segmented, if you try to solit and already small market it won't work. Diferences must exist between members of the market and these diferences must be measurable through traditional data collection methods (McElligott, 2003). My mother has high blood pressure and she tend to lean towards food products that are targeted towards a health lifestyle. If a company doesn't research the area in which they are going to market or they put a product out that is either to expensive or to elaborate in an area that people can't aford that then they will fail with that particular product.
