Typically, ERP systemsoperate on an integrated software platform using common data definitions operating ona single database.ERPs were originally designed for manufacturing companies but have since expandedto service industries, higher education, hospitality, health care, financial services, andgovernment. Each industry has its own ERP peculiarities. For example, governmentERP uses contract lifecycle management (CLM) rather than traditional purchasing andfollows government accounting rules rather than GAAP. Banks have back-officesettlement processes to reconcile checks, credit cards, debit cards, and otherinstruments.Enterprise Resource Planning systems are importantly a very vital investmentthat has high competition and performance of a company. This important framework is supposed to be systematicallyconstructing the objectives of ERP selection in order to support the business goals and of allthe strategies of an enterprise. It also helps in identifying the appropriate attributes andconsistent evaluation standard for a alleviating a group decision process. This project laterwould describe the enterprise resource planning in an organization.Case studiesIn today, supply chain management is eventually becoming a core competency wherein theenterprise resource planning (ERP) system is supposedly an integral part of supply chainmanagement (SCM). However establishing an ERP system is very expensive and risky. Thecompetition around the globe means that all organization which hopes to survive must setup highly responsive supply chains, with all up, mid and downstream partners. Supply chainmanagement is said to be a network of independent or semi-independent business entitiestogether which is responsible for procurement, manufacturing and distributing activitieslinked with one or more families of associated products. Considering the enterprisesassociated with supply chain management is more likely to increase the control over theirown suppliers thus enhancing their SCM capabilities by getting power from information. Thusmost of the companies in today have started to implement ERP systems which are mainlydesigned to integrate and optimise several business processes like order entry andproduction planning across the entire firm. This basic investment has made it possible forsharing large amount of information along with their supply chain which has eventuallyenabling real-time collaboration between supply chain partners letting organizations withforward visibility bettering inventory management and distribution. ERP allows transmissionand processing of information required for synchronous decision making which can beobserved as an enabler of SCM competencies.
