Cliff Hults Partner: Lizzy Robinson Date started-completed: 12/9/04-12/16/04 Finding Density of Metals Purpose: To find the density of metals using a triple beam balance, a graduated cylinder, and the density formula (mass/volume). Then, find the density of the mystery metal. Apparatus Triple Beam Balance and Materials: Graduated Cylinder Tin Lead Aluminum Mystery Filter Paper – 1.4g Spoon – 4.9g Procedure: 1. Got a Triple Beam Balance, Graduated cylinder, a spoon, and filter paper. 2. Filled the graduated cylinder up with 10mL of water. 3. Picked up 1 st metal - Tin 4. Weighted the metal and recorded it 5. Put the metal in the graduated cylinder 6. Recorded the volume of the metal by subtracting 10mL from the volume of the water and metal to get the volume of the metal only. 7. Poured out the water and returned all metal back to it container. 8. Put 10mL of water into the graduated cylinder 9. Picked up 2 nd metal - Aluminum 10. Repeated steps 4-7 11. Put 10mL of water into the graduated cylinder 12. Picked up 3 rd metal - Nickel 13. Repeated steps 4-7 14. Put 10mL of water into the graduated cylinder
