Each compound consists of a constant proportion of each element in the compound, and the elements are always combined with the same percentage of oxygen and simplest formula for the compound. Apparatus Crucible with cover and Materials: Ring stand Ring Clay Triangle Bunsen Burner Crucible tongs Wire gauze Steel wool Distilled water Stirring rod Dropping pipette 35cm magnesium ribbon Procedure: 1. Measure the mass of a clean, dry crucible and cover with a balance 2. Obtain a piece of clean magnesium ribbon 3. Measure the mass of the crucible lid, and magnesium ribbon with a balance 4. Heat the crucible – 4 minutes 5. Lower the crucible onto the tip of the inner cone of the flame 6. Tilt the of the crucible with tongs 7. Heat for 10 minutes 8. Cover the crucible and
