Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory ECON 204 • 3 Credits • Spring 2021 Department of Economics • University of Massachusetts Amherst INSTRUCTOR AND COURSE INFORMATION Deepankar Basu; Zoom Office Hours: Thursday 10:00 AM –12:00 PM, or by appointment. The teaching team (instructor and TAs) will respond to all emails within 48 hours, excluding weekends. All times listed in the syllabus and used in this class are Eastern Standard Time (with or without daylight saving, as is relevant), USA. ECON 204 is a fully online course with a synchronous required (Friday discussion sections) and a synchronous non-required component (Monday/Wednesday lectures). You must have access to the Internet and a valid UMass Net ID. The course will be administered through two digital platforms: MOODLE and MyLab. MOODLE: The following will be available on the course webpage on MOODLE: Syllabus, zoom lecture links, zoom office hour links, lecture slides and video recording of lectures, and any extra material. The class email list available on MOODLE will be used to send emails to the whole class. MyLab: All homework assignments and exams will be administered through MyLab. A gradebook will be available on MyLab to monitor your performance in the course. The textbook will be available as an etext once you purchase access to MyLab. CONTENT OF THE COURSE Macroeconomics is the study of the aggregate economy, as opposed to the study of individual economic actors - workers, capitalists, consumers, firms, the government, unions - making up the aggregate economy. Macroeconomics can be broadly divided into three parts: (a) study of
