Name: Andy Kalish BUS 100, Section: 010 Date: 02-05-2008 Reading Log for Chapter: 3 Chapter Title: Business Law and Ethics The five most important points of this reading were: There are international organizations set in place such as the UN, the World Court, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the European Union. These organizations are set in place to give financial loans to countries and hold certain laws in place for the entire planet. Businesses pay taxes to many taxes including property taxes, payroll taxes, sales taxes, and excise taxes. Income tax is based on the income received by individuals and businesses. Property taxes are assessed on real and personal property. Payroll taxes are the employer’s share of Social Security taxes and federal and state unemployment taxes. Sales taxes are taxes that re imposed and collected by legal authority on goods when they are sold. Excise taxes are taxes that are imposed on specific items such as gasoline, alcohol, cigarettes, cars and guns. There are certain laws protecting consumers from faulty products.
