Cell Proliferation :’Cell’division’by’mitosis’and’cytokinesis.’Timing,’ location’and’extent’of’it’is’extremely’ important.’ ’ In’both’plants’and’animals,’most’cells’stop’growing’when’they’ mature,’but’have’a’specific’population’of’undifferentiated’cells’ that’keep’proliferating’throughout’the’individual±s’life. In’plants,’these’are’called’ meristems. Give’arise’to’the’st ems,’roots,’leaves,’flowers’and’ other’structures’that’develop’throughout’life.’ In’animals,’these’are’called’ stem cells. Can’give’rise’to’almost’any’differentiated’cell’type.’ Generally,’they’replace’skin,’blood,’and’gut’cells’that’ die,’repair’wounds’and’h elp’the’immune’system.’ Programmed Cell Death: Occurs’as’certain’tissues’and’organs’take’ shape.’This’is’called’ apoptosis. ’It’is’a’highly’regulated’aspect’of’plant’and’ animal’development.’ ’ Its’important’for’certain’parts’of’the’body’to’take’shape.’If’they’ don±t’die,’it’is’considered’a’defect’ –’defective’cell -suicide’genes.’ ’ Cell Movement or Cell Growth: ’they’need’to’move’to’a’new’location’for’ normal’development’to’occur.’ For’plants,’they’don±t’move,’but’the’change’orientation’of’cell’ division.’ ’
