Caitlin’Rose ’ CAP’320 ’ September’17,2013 ’ Reaction’Paper’#4:’The’Power’of’“Like” While’numerous’members’of’this’generation’would’love’to’deny’the’massive’ impact’that’social’media’website s’ have’on’their’lives,’this’article,’“The’Power’of’ ‘Like,±”’states’the’intense’truth:’“90’percent’of’all’time’[is]’spent’on’social’ networking’sites”’(40).’ ’ Media’theorists’today’are’actively’examining’the’toll’that’ social’media’sites’have’taken’on’our’abili ty’to’ verbally’communicate ’ with’each’ other:’theorist,’Douglas’Rushkoff,’for’instance ,’recently’released’a’book, ’ titled’ “Present’Shock,”’in’which’the’multi -media’takeover’of’present’time’is’discussed.’ Despite’the’effects’that’current’social’media’sites’have ’ on’our’behavior,’however,’it’ is’undeniable’to’any’media’theorist,’including’Rushkoff,’that’these’sites’are’ immensely’beneficial’to’organizations’and’their’advertisers. ’ Management’of’social’ media’is’no w’a’crucial’component’to’being’ a’successful ’ Public’Rela tions’ professional.’My’understanding’of’this’concept’was’broadened,’as’Lipsman,’Mudd,’ Rich’and’Bruich±s’article’demonstrated’the’positive’correlation’between’branding’ content’and’Facebook.’ Although’I’wasn±t ’ certain’of’the’exact’number,’it’was’not’surpris ing’ when’the’ article’revealed ’ that’a’grand’estimation’of’160’million’visitors’in’the’United’St ates’ visit’Facebook’each’month.’Statistics’that’simply’involve’counting’are’no’longer’the’ most’efficient’route:’because’Facebook’gives’brands’the’ability’to’study ’ their’target’ audience’through’ their’ profiles,’social’media’brand’impressions’are’now’a’preferred’ route’to’collecting’data.’Again,’as’one’who’has’grown’with’this’generation±s’
