The United States: ● Containment: The Soviet Union: ● Expansion: United States Containment Examples: The Marshall Plan: The Marshall plan was written by George Marshall and proposed at Harvard on June 5th 1947. The Marshall Plan wanted to restore and strengthen the economies and dignity of the western european countries that were devastated by the death and destruction in WW2. This would be achieved by providing financial and Military support to any of the countries in need. As a result this would strengthen the countries and not let them fall under communism in a time of weakness. Also, in the future this would hopefully result in the acceptance of democracy in the western european countries.
