Both governments in Brave New World and “Harrison Bergeron” ignore the relationship between a parent and his/her child. In Brave New World, the government conditions citizens to view the relationship between a parent and child as ridiculous. No citizen of London has a child. Because the people grew up with this mentality, the sight of a mother loving her child is repulsive. The reader of Brave New World sees this disgust while Bernard and Lenina are in Malpais and Linda frantically describes her situation: [t]hough it wasn’t my fault, I swear; because I still don’t know how it happened, seeing that I did all the Malthusian Drill—you know, by numbers, One, two, three, four, always, I swear it; but all the same it happened; and of course there wasn’t anything like an Abortion Centre
