Sherry YuanFebruary 6, 2012Period 6AP LiteratureE. E. CummingsEdward Estlin Cummings was a famous poet born on October 14, 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In many of his poems he took and used his father’s pastoral background to preach. His father who was a professor at Harvard University taught Sociology and Political Science, but later left to become the minister of the South Congregational Church in Boston. As a child, E. E. attended Cambridge public schools and began writing poems at a young age of ten. After graduating from Harvard University, he volunteered as an ambulance driver for World War I and met William Slater Brown who became a close friend. In France, the two were arrested and placed into the concentration camps for three months for suspicion of espionage. Through the experience he had, he was inspired and wrote the poem
