Career Development BCG has an up‐or‐out system, but with some leeway built in. Employees are given a chance to put in extra time to catch up (through courses and training), but will be directed out of the firm if not making sufficient progress. One positive to the system is its ability to handle variable numbers of promotions. According to insiders, BCGs organizational structure means that relatively large numbers of promotions can be absorbed if necessary17. The BCG career path starts either at the Associate or Consultant level, where progression to the next position usually takes 2‐3 years. This continues until the level of Principal is reached, where it requires 3‐4 years to reach Partner.
