“MARIE ANTOINETTE”“Marie Antoinette,” a 2003 production directed by Sofia Coppola, is a jewel of a movie. It is a visual gift with top photography; it is beautiful music to our ears with an awesome score; it is historical food for our brains. All this combined, it makes for excellent educational entertainment.Obviously, the main character of this film is the Austrian archduchess who became queen of France at age 19 after getting married to French dauphin Louis-Auguste at age 14. Upon her marriage, she became part of a frivolous world, where having fun to the most was thenorm. Given her age, she was easily thrown into a whirlpool of pleasure-filled living. In this world, there was no room for real efforts to govern a country and its people. It was just about the monarchy and its entourage at Versailles, a self-contained community catering to the whimsof its residents.
