-prominent brow ridge and small teeth
-good candidate as ancestor to modern humans, b/c of thin skull bones
Homo erectus

-had fully modern gait
-hairless, and would sweat to cool itself
-reduction of sexual dimorphism
-first hominid believed to have used fire
-more robust and more pronounced brow ridge compared to modern humans
-first to leave Africa (England – Indonesia)
-left: tool technology
-tools: Acheulian Tools: wide geographical distribution, named for St. Achule where first
found, remarkably standard

-800k years ago
-name: latin for explorer/pioneer
-first discovered at Gran Dolina, Spain
