Module 5 Discussion: Roman Culture Prompt: “The Romans were more maintainers of culture than inventors of culture.” Agree or disagree with this statement. Be sure to use three examples from the reading along with rationale to support your position.” For me, "maintainers of culture" brings a few images to mind: Museum curators, who seek to preserve history through preserving artifacts and texts, Indigenous tribes who seek to maintain their culture and languages by passing down the culture to their children rather than "assimilating," and conservatives (not necessarily American Republicans, but any conservatives from any country that want to preserve the ways of "the gold old days" and resist technological or cultural advancement). In all of these examples, these groups are maintaining culture through preservation. The Romans, on the other hand, did not seek to preserve the cultures they bothered from, but rather synthesized from their surrounding cultures.
