March 27, 2008 Human Resource Management The Selection Process - Application blanks and Resume (gives companies a look at the employee) - Testing (companies will test applicants to see if they “fit”) - Interviews (individual interviews to show who the applicant is) - Reference Checks - Job Offer - Physical Examination - Hire new Employee Task analysis Process Specifying the KSA necessary for successful job performance - Knowledge – a body of information, usually factual or procedural in nature, that makes for successful performance of the task - Skill – an individual’s level of proficiency or competency in performing a specific task - Ability – a more general, enduring trait or capability an individual possesses when he or she first begins to perform a task Training and Development - Training – refers to activities that help employees overcome limitations and improve performance in their current jobs. o Orientation training – getting to know the organization o Basic skills training – training in some basic elements of job
