Type A individuals are under too much stress and have a significantly higher incidence of coronary heart disease. Type B behavior is characteristics of calm, casual relaxed persons. These people take one thing at a time, do not feel pressured or hurried, and seldom set their own deadlines. Type C individuals are just as highly stressed as Type A’s, but do not seem to be at a higher risk for disease than Type B. these people possess commitment, confidence and control. They are highly committed to whatever they are doing, have a great deal of confidence in their ability to do work, and are in constant control of their actions. Additionally they enjoy their work and maintain themselves in top physical condition to be able to meet the mental and physical demands of their work. Stress Management 1. Stress Reduction: - Recognize factors that promote stress. Eliminate activities that result in daily stress. 2. Relaxation Techniques: - Progressive relaxation: stress reduction technique that promotes progressive muscle relaxation and allows the mind and body to relax. Breathing Techniques: allows relaxation by focusing on breathing. 3. Rest and Sleep: - Adults should get about 7 – 9 hours a night. Try to go to bed at the same time every night. A 15 – 30 min nap a day is also helpful in stress reduction. 4. Exercise: - Light to moderate exercise can reduce stress. Aerobic exercise is recommended. 5.
