Writing Assignment Two: The Buddhist Tradition Buddhism is strongly ruled through non-violence. As for Buddhist rulers, there is a non-violence work ethic that they follow during their occupation. What I thought was very strange about this ethic was that as a part of celebrations, prisoners were released from jail. I definitely do not agree with this ruling tactic. I understand that Buddhism is geared toward non-violence and peace, but if an individual killed someone or stole from innocent people, a festival is not a reason to release the criminal from jail. The Buddhist political system seems too lenient. I think that if they are trying to run a country in peace, than the evil, corrupted people should stay behind bars in order for tranquility to occur. I find the Mahayana Doctrine very interesting. In contrast to earlier Buddhism, Lay Buddhists can achieve enlightenment while living on earth. They believe that by participating in a pilgrimage they are able to pursue spiritual development and even
