Scoring and analysis of RAPD data DNA fragments showing polymorphism were scored using a binary system of 0 (absent) and 1 (present). Genetic relatedness among the 9 regenerants was estimated using Jaccard’s (1908) coefficient of similarity. Cluster analysis was performed using the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA). The genetic similarity and dendrogram were computed using the Numerical Taxonomy and Multivariate Analysis System (NTSYS)-pc software, version 2.11a (32). 3. Results 3.1. Effect of gamma irradiation on regeneration of shoots from in vitro buds The present study was conducted to determine the effects of irradiation on regeneration and morphological changes of E. elatior buds. Gamma rays are mainly used to irradiate multicellular layers because of the high penetration rate into tissues.
