Unformatted text preview: OTRIDIUM RESPONSIBLE FOR ACETONE PRODUCTION Facultative anaerobe AND BUTERIC ACID FERM (IDENTIFIED BY PASTEUR) Aerotolerant anaerobe (‘indifferent’) Aerobic/anaerobic/facultative Microaerophillic FACULTATIVE ANAEROBE: IF ORGANISM IS FACULTATIVE ANAEROBE, IT CAN DO BOTH AEROBIC RESP/FERMENTATION; THIS MEANS THAT IN THE PRESENCE OF OXYGEN, IT WILL RESPIRE AEROBICALLY (LOTS OF NRG TO BE HARVESTED) DUE TO OXID OF GLUCOSE. IN ABSENCE OF OXYGEN, THE ORGANISM STIL GROWS AND MAKES NRG, BUT IT DOESNT HAVE OXY AS TERMINAL ELEC ACCEPTOR AND WILL FERMENT INSTEAD. AEROTOLERANT OR "INDIFFERENT" ANAEROBES: IT MEANS THAT THEY WILL NOT RESPIRE AEROBICALLY, THEY FERMENT ALL THE TIME. IT DOES NOT CARE IF OXYGEN IS PRESENT, IT IS INDIFF TO PRESENCE OF OXYGEN. NO ETC, NO OXID PHOSPHORY--OBLIGATE FERMENTER.
