Promise for the dynasty but also for the temple- they are intrinsically connected in the tanach.
Davidic kingship is connected to the temple. So when they returned, they assumed that the
malchut would return. Therefore the removal of the dynasty and the Beit Hamikdash totally
shattered the nation.
If they wanted to connect to Hashem, they went to the BH and asked their questions to the
cohen- there was no rabbinical Judaism in place. They did not have siddurim or rabbis to ask
