None of these terms are SI. The term metric ton should be restricted to commercial usage, and no prefixes should be used with it. Use of the term tonne is deprecated. Others The ANSI/IEEE standard lists the kilowatthour (1 kWh = 3.6 MJ) in the category of "Units in Use with SI Temporarily". The SI unit of energy, the joule, together with its multiples, is preferred for all applications. The kilowatthour is widely used, however, as a measure of electric energy. This unit should not be introduced into any new areas, and eventually, it should be replaced by the megajoule. In that same "temporary" category, the -28 2 standard also defines the barn (1 lb = 10 m ) for cross 5 section, the bar (1 bar = 10 Pa) for pressure, the curie 10 (1 Ci = 3.7 x 10 Bq) for radionuclide activity, the roentgen (1 R = 2.58 x 10-4 C/kg) for X- and gamma-ray exposure, the rem for dose equivalent (1 rem = 0.01 Sv), and the rad (1 rd = 0.01 Gy) for absorbed dose.
