Bilayer Systems in the Quantum Hall Regime Show many new phenomena not seen in single layer systems. Example: Layer-coherent quantized Hall state at total filling f=1. State depends on Coulomb interactions between the layers; requires separation less than 1.7 l B . System shows quantized Hall conductance for total electric current flowing in two layers ( ρ xy = h/e 2 , ρ xx = 0. ) System behaves like a superfluid for counterflowing currents in two layers: ( ρ xx = ρ xy = 0 .) Leads to phenomenon of quantized Hall drag.
