emerge upon close examination.
This report attempts to examine the impact of state graduation policies on the attainment
of a regular high school diploma. It provides state-by-state information on graduation and
dropout rates for students with SLD and suggests federal and state-level policies that
could improve these rates. Coming Soon: Common Core State Standards
Complicating the urgent need to improve graduation rates for students with SLD is the
looming transition to new, more rigorous academic standards in English/Language Arts
and Mathematics. For most states, this means implementation of the Common Core State
Standards developed by a state-led effort of the National Governors Association Center
for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers.
