Today’s objec0ves/goals 1) Describe the diferences in DNA content, ploidy, chromosome number, chroma:d number, and number oF DNA double helices, between a cell in G1, G2, and all the diferent stages oF (mitosis and) meiosis. 2) Describe at least two characteris:cs oF homologous chromosomes and use these characteris:cs to determine which chromosomes are homologous given a suitable image oF a cell’s karyotype. (Review/applica:on) 3) Use diagrams to illustrate the DNA double helix in chromosomes at the diferent stages oF (mitosis and) meiosis . 4) Compare and contrast what happens to chromosomes during mitosis and meiosis. 5) Given suitable drawings oF chromosomes in a cell be able to iden:Fy mito:c and meio:c stages. Be able to jus:Fy your iden:±ca:ons using descrip:ons oF the stages and consequences oF mitosis and meiosis. 6) Given the ploidy (e.g. n, 2n, 3n, 11n…) and total number oF chromosomes oF a cell, use accurate diagrams to illustrate any stage oF mitosis or meiosis. (Mainly done in tutorial)

Welcome to Meiosis Wednesday! Today’s plan 1. Review the roles/func:ons of meiosis in nature. [General context] 2. Your turn± describe with simple diagrams what happens to chromosomes during speciFc stages of the cell cycle and MEIOSIS.[Goals 1, 2, 4, 5] 3. Ac:vity± steps involved in going from G1 to the end of meiosis II from the point of view of DNA and chromosomes. [Goals 1, 3, 4] 4. Worksheet± summarize important events in the cell cycle and meiosis in a given scenario. [Goals 1, 3, 6] 5. Discuss the main di²erences between meiosis and mitosis. [Goal 4] 6. Prac:ce iden:fying stages of meiosis or mitosis in diagrams. [Goal 5]
