Photosynthesis Monday Night Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to measure the rates of photosynthesis under various environmental conditions. Hypothesis: The concentration of 6% CO 2 will have the highest rate of photosynthesis, followed by 3%, .5%, and 0% with no photosynthesis. Method Outline: 1. Remove plungers from each of 4 syringes, tape label each syringe, and place 10 cut 2x2 mm Elodea leaf sections in the bottom of the barrel of each syringe 2. Replace the plunger, taking care not to damage the leaves in doing to. 3. In the syringes, fill with 20ml of 0%, 0.5%, 3.0%, and 6% NaHCO 3 solution respectively, count and record the number of leaf sections that initially sink, and place under the light source at the Carbon Dioxide station. 4. At the end of 60 minutes, count the number of leaf sections that are floating for each condition (remember to discard any that were floating at the beginning of the experiment), and record the data in Table 2 of the lab manual. Results:
