Being one of the most prosperous countries in efficiently mass producing affordablegoods is not exactly a good thing for China. The main reason for their productivity in cheap goodsis due to their lack of concern for the environment. Disregarding the harmful effects theirproduction process may have on the environment, companies continue to produce their low-costgoods to reach maximum profit. According to one magazine article, over 400,000 people havedied in China due to environmental issues as well as two-thirds of its cities lacks water due to thechemical spills dispersed into water supplies every two to three days. Government officials haveattempted to fix the horrid polluting occurring throughout China, but local officials are onlyconcerned with making maximum profit for their districts and will not abide by the government’srules and regulations. China’s only priority is to keep raising the GDP, but with raising their GDPthey are depleting their environment to levels unknown.1When a country is depleting their environment to such extents, other countries carefullydecide if they should or should not participate in business with them. Using the U.S. as anexample, if they were to get involved with China’s businesses that are causing environmentalhazards, they may be getting themselves into more than they purchased. If some kind ofenvironmental disaster caused by the company occurs, the US will now be included in themultiple costly lawsuits that that company brought among themselves. One commonenvironmental disaster that could likely happen is an automobile accident caused by the crowedroads of China. Being the lead country in automobile accidents that commonly cause chemicalspills, results in the company having to put out money for the replacement of vehicles, supplieslost, as well as payments for the environmental damages (Economy &Lieberthal, 2007). Not onlydo these accident cause instant injuries to people involved, but also add the long term effect thatpollution has on people.Another essential thing the U.S. may want to keep in mind when getting involved withother companies is where these companies are getting their inputs from.If a U.S. company islocated in China, the company is likely to be getting their resources from vendors throughoutChina as well (Economy & Lieberthal, 2007). These vendors may or may not being abiding by theenvironmental laws putting the U.S. company buying the supplies at risk. Knowing who you are
getting your supplies from can assure that your company won’t be charged with any fines fromthe government or lose customers from information disclosure.Being charged with fines is only the beginning of the money losses that can occur whengetting involved with countries like China. China’s polluted water and health problems will onlyhurt U.S. businesses.Companies have had to relocate due to chemical spill in bodies of water,
