In fact, next to anthropology, it may be one of the most holistic disciplines at any university since it focuses on the nature of relationships between human groups and their physical, cultural, AND psychological surroundings. It is cultural science, social science, humanities and arts, and natural science, all wrapped up into one discipline. Most researchers utilize aspects of geography every day in their work even if they do not reside in a department of geography. T OPIC G OALS Appreciate how geography is involved in all scientific and intellectual disciplines and in every-day life Know the different contents of “place” Be able to use relative and absolute descriptions of location, direction, and distance Understand central analytical terms in geography (and other disciplines), such as
