Ezra Surtees Business Activity #6 Global Business­offshoring­putting­downward­pressure­wages/ Contrary to popular opinion and to the highly politicized arguments, offshoring does not actually push down American wages. Despite the political and social hype surrounding the issue, a joint report from the University of Berkeley and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology shows that while offshoring has both positive and negative effects, the repeated accusations that offshoring drives down wages in the US labor market is an overstatement. ( Ammachchi 2014) About a quarter of US companies offshore to other countries, mainly in the manufacturing sector of industry. However the majority of employers work with contractors and suppliers inside the United States.
