It is our firm belief that the lives of those who help with distribution of food are enriched and improved just as much as the quality of life is improved for the families who come to us for food. We partner with many organizations, such as student groups, scout troops, church groups and the United Way, who provide volunteers to serve our clients, and which in turn fosters a spirit of community service in those who volunteer. The Relationship Between Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank The relationship between food banks and food pantries is one of the areas that we often find needs clarification. A common question we get here in Charlottesville is: “What is the difference between Loaves & Fishes and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank?” In short, food pantries, such as Loaves & Fishes, focus on direct distribution of groceries to clients. Food banks, on the other hand, focus primarily on collection of food for distribution to local food pantries, soup kitchens and other food programs that 1 calculated based upon average family size.
