Unformatted text preview: of health, social justice, and sustainability. City Schoolyard Garden believes strongly in building collaborations among organizations committed to food justice. One example of how we do this is through our Veg- Off recipe competition at Buford Middle School. Partnering with the Buford Family and Consumer Science Class, the PB&J Fund, Whole Foods, the Local Food Hub, and Charlottesville City Schools Central Kitchen, CSG hosts a competition where 3 student clubs develop healthy recipes using a secret ingredient (this past fall it was sweet potatoes). The dishes are prepared by the student clubs and served to the 480+ Buford student body. The student body then votes for their favorite recipe (2013 winner was a no sugar/whole wheat Sweet Potato Muffin).
